Remake???

Just found out today that someone is remaking this movie. Generally, I hate remakes. Especially remakes of bad movies. But I'm intrigued by this one because my favorite young actor, Chris Marquette is listed as an executive producer. I can only hope that means he might be playing the lead. So does anyone know anything about this? Anything at all?

Why in the world would they want to make a remake of this movie for when they would not capture it exactly how it was done in the 80's? That would be very stupid and they would more than likely hardly show any nudity due to todays times!

Leave it alone is my best thing to tell the person in Hollywood!

What do you mean? There's plenty of gratuitous nudity in today's teen movies. Only thing that's different is the handling of sex scenes. Other than that it's pretty much the same as it was in the '80s.

I am sorry to say it but I do not see as much nudity as I once did in the 80's. They show less nudity now than what they once did. What gratuitous nudity are you talking about? It is all toned down than what it was 20 years go guy. I am just being honest about it and correct as well.

It is the truth because I have listened to people talk about a remake of Revenge Of The Nerds and like those people have said that the movie would be altered because today everything is politically correctness and the nudity that they showed 24 years ago in Revenge Of The Nerds would not be done today and would be way toned down with a few seconds of a flash of a womans chest. That is the truth right there!

Here's a sample of this decade's movies that were marketed to teens, that have plenty of gratuitous nudity (some more, some less):

American Pie (1999)
100 girls (2000)
Dish dogs (2000)
Road trip (2000)
Not another teen movie (2001)
100 women (2002)
40 days and 40 nights (2002)
Van Wilder (2002)
Old school (2003)
Going the distance (2004)
EuroTrip (2004)
Harold & Kumar go to White castle (2004)
The girl next door (2004)
Dirty deeds (2005)
The dukes of hazzard (2005)
Grandma's boy (2006)
Superbad (2007)

"Frat pack" movies have a lot of nudity. The horror genre is full of women running around naked.

So, in conclusion. Film nudity is still very much alive and well.

Some showed very little nudity and others on your list showed a lot more but why ruin a classic movie for when you know it will not be done the same way as the original was done?

I have seen a lot of remakes that did not do any justice to the original movie because they cut out certain things from the movie to add in new things that was not in the original movie.

I am just being honest about it and upfront. I do not want to see a remake of My Tutor!

Well it is the straight truth about them selecting in Hollywood some prude in her 30's who does not want to show any skin because it couldjeopordize her career by doing that. I am not sure as to what will become of the boobies in the movie.

Well it is a classic since it was made 25 years ago. They do not make movie like that anymore these days. I was reading in the Chicago Tribune yesterday about parents complaining about how graphic and violent Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk is.

What is wrong with todays parents? I mean we grew up with such shows like The Incredible Hulk, Knight Rider, The A-TEAM, The Fall Guy, The Dukes Of Hazzard, The Bionic Woman, The Six Million Dollar Man which I am not surprised no one has tried to remake yet as a popular 70's TV show, and many others.

The had violence in those shows and do I have any problems with society? Sorry to say I do not because I turned out normal.

I had never seen MY TUTOR before and since I Love The '80s I have lately found myself renting oldies I missed, this being one of 'em.
The whole time I watched it I thought to myself "This would never float today: A 29 year old (hired help!) sleeping with a 17 year old. Oh, the prison term "Terri" would get if she pulled that **** nowadays!!!

I had NO idea they were planning a remake...and to THAT I say...the story wouldnt work nowadays ...... doesnt anyone watch all that "Teachers Sleeping With Their Students" stuff on the news????

Hell, in the original he turned 18 not long after the affair began. No prosecutor would take that case in California, where the movie was set. High school graduate, about a week from turning 18, having a fling with a 29 year old woman...yeah. Even if you reversed it...29 year old man with a girl in the same situation, no prosecutor would bother.

You are correct about that because if they are going by him graduating from high school he is no longer a child now. The tutor was hot though!

I am glad to hear that you love tow atch 80's classic movies! I think they are the best to be honest with you! No there is no way this film could be remade because the movie company or Hollywood would think that this is saying it is ok for a older woman to sleep with a teenager. Look at the MPAA now they regulate what can be in films and what cannot be in films.

To break it all down what I am trying to say is for a PG-13 rating to a R rating in todays standards.

If it has smoking of cigerettes that could increase it to a R rating, the use of drugs that would definitely be a R rating, any sex or nudity a R rating. They would have this watered down for the teenagers to go see the films. I am being honest here about this.

I just got a 12 disc DVD box set of Mill Creek films which includes this with it as well! I am excited about it because a lot of these movies I remember watching back in the 80's as a pre teen to teenager. LOL A lot of them I also watched on USA UP ALL NIGHT! Those were the good old days! You do not see anything like that on now at all.

"As for the description of the original My Tutor as a "classic movie"...Jesus, I don't even know where to start with that. Do all movies over ten years old qualify as "classics" now? I mean, regardless of their actual quality?"

Drsantanico, your Biography says you're female. While you may have some appreciation for male-oriented fiction, it is likely that your female viewpoint prevents you from the kind of perspective on, and appreciation of, MT that a male has. My Tutor IS a classic in the sense that it was, for its time (and perhaps still), the ultimate male-teen fantasy film. (See my What A Life! post on this board.)

I'd be curious about a remake; however, no remake can ever equal the original because of the memories and associations one has with the time period -- and maybe the actors, plot, setting, music, etc. as well -- in which the original was made. As a related example, I've always liked Richard Gere, but I'm uncomfortable seeing him in more current dramas as a mature man. I want to view and remember him as the prime-meat stud he was in, e.g., Breathless. Now, this might be just my issue, yet I think/hope the more senior readers of this message will get what I'm talking about.

Regarding comparative nudity between 80s teen films and contemporary ones ... well, that's an interesting subject -- one that probably should be researched. My recall isn't good enough to make comparisons. From what I've seen over the years, American producers and audiences have been, and remain, pretty squeamish about "real" nudity (i.e., full frontal and close-up genitals) for female, and especially male, characters.

"I am sorry to say it but I do not see as much nudity as I once did in the 80's. They show less nudity now than what they once did. What gratuitous nudity are you talking about? It is all toned down than what it was 20 years go guy."

RobBase, is it possible that you remember seeing more nudity in the 80s because it made a greater impression on you then due to your age and relative innocence? These days, what impact does feature-film nudity have on a viewer when any 10-year-old with a computer can access, within seconds, uncensored images of every kind of exhibition and sex?

This film doesn't need a remake; it's fine the way it is.
