What is Jack cooking?

Does anyone know what Jack puts in that pan and it immediately puffs up?, when he is making dinner for his wife?

they are Cellophane noodles They are generally sold in dried form, boiled to reconstitute, then used in soups, stir fried dishes when fried they take on 4 times there original thickness. I am a chef and use them almost every day.
