It is not the theme from Chariots of Fire. They made it sound just enough like Chariots to not have to pay the royalties, but enough so that audiences would get the joke.

It sounds like a different version of the theme song to the movie "Chariots of Fire" but not exactly. Perhaps Lee Holdridge, who did the music for the movie of Mr. Mom, orchestrated another version. Of course, it's not in the credits. Gotta love those complete soundtrack listings.

esme23 is right. It's more like a spoof of the Chariots Of Fire theme.

Was it really a "generic" version of Chariots of Fire in the original release? I could have sworn that it was the real version back in the day. Did they swap it out on the DVD release?

The music was not altered for a DVD release. It was a spoofed version of the Chariots of Fire theme as far back as the TV airings, if not also in the theatrical release. Because of that similarity, many people could easily think it was the original theme.
