How exactly did Jinx throw Jack and the other guys under the bus?

I know he did, but I don't understand how. How was he "covering" for them? He says, "I'm sorry Jack, I covered for you guys as long as I could". They didn't even work for the company anymore. And the guys that were interrogating him knew that too. So what's up with Jinx and that whole scene?

After the guys were laid off, Jinx' numbers were off and he portrayed it as though the numbers were off all along before the guys lost their jobs. Jinx claimed he covered for them all along (as if he were doing them a favor). He was lying and that's why Jack calls him out on it.
