Well, Martin was married at the time. He's probably one of those good guys that just keeps the ring on no matter what, and they forgot to hide it somehow. In the movie, when he tells Teri Garr they should get married, she doesn't say anything about his wife, so...

My dad wore his wedding ring into his 80s when they had to cut it off for circulation reasons. My brother also has never removed his. I decided I didn't want that burden to have never taken it off (particularly when working on cars or with chemicals), so I took it off to show my brother on my wedding day.

I would think they would have something like slip on cots that could be slipped over a wedding ring if the actor didn't want to remove it.
