The dream scene.
I love it how it's thunder storming outside and Carolyn pulls the gun out on Jack. He says, "Honey, what about the kids? The kids are right outside!"
IN A THUNDER STORM?!
I'm just watching this movie now, and so far the best scene is where Jack is in the kitchen and has the iron on, and tries to make popcorn, and tells the boys to "keep it down, Nicki going to get the results of her bloodtest today"...and he's refering to the soapie on tv, and the two boys know the storyline and Alex says that some guy is "a dick"....then the popcorn machine goes nuts, and Jack is hitting it with a plastic sword!
I love the whole scene. :)
im sorry but i have to say the scene where he is shopping for the first time with his kids and he keeps knocking over stuff and on the interocm the lady keeps saying i cant remember the name but something along the lines of
"Brad clean up in aisle 4!"
and eventually it gets to where he is checking out his grocerys and all of a sudden the lady on the interocm goes
"Brad claen up on aisle 5!"
and then Jack yells out
"Brad we were never even in aisle 5!"
you had to see it i found it funny the way he looked and the way he said it lol but that's just me.
IRV... clean up in aisle 5!
"I'm going downstairs to sleep on the fat couch, if I can get through the door!"
LOL. Best comedy ever.
I guess the one I love most is when Ron comes over in the morning and Jack comes in with the chainsaw on...that's hilarious. I just LOVE that, I plan to do that someday, only with my daughter's boyfriends, heh heh.
shareI agree -- including the feminine products shopping. The entire sequence was simple, credible and hilarious!
Honorable mention to Jack's near finish-line dumping the obstacle course race to let Boss Martin Mull win!
I disagree about the feminine hygiene. In '81 I was 19, my Dad had been buying MY products, much less my Mom's from the time I was 14. My brother was 15, so he wasn't driving yet, but the next year as soon as he got his license, yeah, if he wanted the car he bought what was needed in the house. The movie was not realistic in that regard.
shareMy favorite part too.
share- The whole soap opera part is great...especially when he gets the phone call, because I assumed he was going to be annoyed with the person on the phone interrupting his show, but instead it's a girlfriend calling to chitchat about the show drama. "It didn't take?!" hahahah
- During the dream sequence (after he gets offended that his wife makes fun of his favorite tshirt) he asks the neighbor in the lingerie what she thinks of it:
"Let me tell you about flannel...it gets me hot!"
John Hughes wrote the best one-liners, man.
- Also the, "South to drop off, moron!" and "Just get baloney, mister!" lines are classic. I like it when Jaws the vacuum is chasing them around and he just tells his kid to "Run!" and eventually the dust blows up all over him.
and eventually it gets to where he is checking out his grocerys and all of a sudden the lady on the interocm goes
"Brad claen up on aisle 5!"
and then Jack yells out
"Brad we were never even in aisle 5!"
Poorly Lived and Poorly Died, Poorly Buried and No One Criedshare
My favorite scene is still the one on the assembly line where they talked about Rocky, and the guys go, "he didn't see Rocky..."
shareI like the scene where Jack has an intervention with his son - time to take away the wooby (security blanket). Some classic lines about how soon he'll be on the street scoring quilts and comforters.
Michael Keaton has the best comedic timing. Wish he was in more movies.
Yeah, the first big laugh was "He didn't see Rocky." Also...
"You want a beer?" while holding chainsaw at 7 AM. And before that shaking his hand with the chainsaw still on in the other hand.
"How can anyone watch these shows" ---> "She's going to tell you she slept with him and then blame it on you."
"220, 221 . . . whatever it takes."
More girls! More wine!

Talking about which Rocky Jack saw:
Was his manager dead? Or alive?
After Caroline and Ron leave on the business trip. Jack looking down at the chainsaw and says - "How'd you like a trim on that mustache, Ron?" and then revs the chainsaw up.
Caroline and Ron looking down on Jack's dead body in the dream scene:
Ron: Holy cow. What'd you use? A .38?
Caroline: 38. 39. Whatever it took.
Those are some of the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
Gotta love the look Jack gives Carolyn just before he takes a dive in the race. Like "gimme a break".
share"jack, you're doing it wrong."
shareFollowed later in the movie with,
Ron, "What did you shoot him with, a .38?"
Caroline, "..38, .39, whatever it takes...!"
Whoa, one punch.
sharei love when he walks by and young and the restless is on and he's like who watches this stuff. next thing you know he is really into it. i also like when his friend calls (discussiong the storyline on the soap) and says the baby is victors and he says but he had a vasectomy and than he asks incredulous "it didnt take?" that is so funny
shareAbsolutely! My son & I have used that expression for YEARS. It is priceless.
shareI don't remember much about this movie, but I remember always laughing at a chili scene...I don't remember what the scene was even about, but I'm assuming it was bathroom humour.
shareThe look Alex gives after picking up the grilled cheese sandwich that Jack peals off the iron and plops on the ironing board is friggin' hilarious. And the look he gives the sandwich while walking away makes me giggle even more.
Also when Jinx starts to snicker and the look on the boss's face after walking in on Jack and the kids in the bathroom.
I love everything about this movie but for me what makes it really funny are the characters reactions at any given moment to each situation. Like the way that Caroline peers into Jacks eyes as she's walking out the door after the chainsaw incident.
Ok, and the one liners:
"Kenny! Don't paint your sister!"
"One punch, one punch!"
agreed 220-221... HAHAHA even when I was a kid watching this I knew what RON was talking about!
Whats more funny is, that RON says 220.. YET standard is 120!! so even Ron was wrong! nevermind mr mom not knowing hahaha
220 would be for special appliance like a dryer or a stove.. nothing else!! 120 would be for everything seld, ie television, fridge, dvd player etc
My favorite scenes would have to be when he walks by the TV and glances at The Young and the Restless, and says I can't believe people watch this crap. Then I guess days later it shows him cleaning and watching and talking to the soap. Then one of his women friend calls and he starts talking about what's going on.
shareFor me it's all of the scenes with him watching the soap operas, those are hilarious! He's start to really get into and argues with the tv..LOL!
I love this movie and it always reminds me of my childhood. It's an old fave.
"Dear God, make me a bird so I can fly...far far away from here" ~ Forrest Gump
'It can't be Victors kid he had a vasectomy...what??...it didn't take?'
shareAfter Meghan eats the chili and Jack comes out of the room with all the protective garb on, a trash bag in one hand and Meghan's dirty diaper being held by tongs in his other hand and then in a stuffed up nose sound asks the boys..."Where does Mommy keep the extra diapers?"
The boys run away and he says..."Cowards!" Then he turns toward the room to go back to Meghan and says....
"Whoa, Meghan!!"
HILARIOUS!!!
How many days 'till Christmas?
The Olympics in Ron's Back yard.
When his assistant screams to Caroline, "What is he doing??" and Caroline replies "He is trying to win"
And the grocery store
And the dream sequence and his favorite shirt gets shot
