Seriously! At least maybe a song nomination! The songs were great: The Meaning of Life The Penis Song Every Sperm is Sacred The Galaxy Song Christmas in Heaven
Because anything even slightly controversial won't even get nominated for an Oscar. Oscars are just a Hollywood back slapping exercise. Getting an Oscar it's not a sign of a good film necessarily.
Agree. The year "The Meaning of Life" could have competed at the Academy Awards; "Terms of Endearment", the most generic, dull and mediocre melodrama you could imagine, won 4 out of the "Big 6" Academy Awards (5 in total): Best Picture, Leading Actress, Supporting Actor, Director, and Best Screenplay. IMO, that says it all. reply share
The Oscars have never been known for rewarding the innovative or controversial. At the time in 1982, the academy still had many members who were well into the 70's and 80's...members who probably would have a collective set of heart attacks and strokes merely by the Creosate scene alone.
