Grown men in dresses is Not Funny

Who wants to see a man dressed as a woman? I blame Monty Python for all the men in dresses that try to be funny on tv and in the movies. Damn you Monty Python!

Top 5 List Of Monty Python Actors Dressing Up As Women And Talking In High Pitched Voices (judged by how funny it is):

1) Terry Jones
2) Graham Chapman
3) John Cleese
4) Eric Idle
5) Michael Palin

(and that IS the only list that Palin comes last in)

When the Monty Python series first came out, the idea of men dressed as women was very funny since it was going against the perceived properness of England. You have to remember that these films are from the 70's or around there and in that time it was probably seen as way funnier than we think of it today since it's been done so often. And i have to admit, they're not just men dressing as women, they're men dressing as funny female characters. The weirdness of the characters is what makes the humour, not just crossdressing.

Where have you been? I'll assume you're being sarcastic.

Monty Python didn't invent comedic tranvestism. It goes back at least to Shakespeare. A more modern example would be Milton Berle.

reply

It actually goes back to the dramas in ancient Greece when the men played both men and women. They might not have done it for comedy, but they still did it.

reply

It doesn't matter how far back it goes in theatre/literature, it was on television now and the point was the characters created.

How is it not funny?

Aside from men dressing as women in Shakespeare plays (and probably before), for the last few hundred years there has been the British pantomime.

I guess if your just watching the scenes of MP where there dressed as women it might not be funny. But if you stop stareing at their dresses and try to listen to what they say, than it's pure comedy gold.

RoadDog-4, I actually think that one of the best things in the movie and one of the best things ever is men in dresses!! Absolutely sweet and charming. And with that sweet voices, aww. In the death part, the blonde woman is so beautiful! Eric Idle is so sweet too.
