I've seen this movie a couple of times, but I've never seen Kiefer Sutherland in the movie before. He's obviously in the movie because his name is in the credits. Is he the beginning or what, because I've never see it from the very very very beginning. I always miss the first 10 minutes, so I keep thinking that he's in that part. So, is he in the beginning or what?

shareI'm pretty sure that Kiefer plays Brian Costello's son (no great irony, as he is Donald Sutherland's son in real life). He appears briefly in the last scene of the movie (little league game) and I don't think he says more than 5 words. Beats me why he's listed as one of the main characters.
shareNo, he actually doesn't play the son. I think he's one of Matthew Broderick's friends in a school scene. I remember it being a very small part. He might not have even had any lines.

Yes, you're right. Keifer plays one of Michael's buddies. He's in one of two possible scenes. 1)When Nora drops Michael off at school in her old car(before it's stolen, she makes the comment about wanting a kiss and saying "I don't take rain checks." As she leaves you see a point of view from the back seat as the car pulls away and MIchael is standing there with his friends. OR 2)When Nora picks Michael up on the motorcycle and she asks him if that's the guy who was expelled and Michael said it was for dealing drugs but he never bought any(just before he gets picked up he's smoking some with some guys). I haven't seen the film in a while and can't remember which scene but I'm inclined to say the first one I mentioned.
Having been one of many who for ages couldn't find Kiefer in this film. I have just rewatched the film concentrating on both those scenes. I was happy to say that Kiefer is, in fact, in both of those scenes.
In the first scene you see a gang of youths hanging around by the fence. Kiefer is the one facing the car wearing jeans, a white tee-shirt and a grey v neck sweater. He is also smoking. As the car turns the corner you can still see Kiefer looking toward the car.
In the second scene Mike runs across to get a lift off his mum on her motorbike. Just before he reaches her, Kiefer walks in front of the camera still wearing the blue jeans and white tee-shirt, but now minus the sweater. I nearly missed that since the viewer tends to concentrate on the main characters.
I cannot tell you how many times I have watched MAX DUGAN RETURNS and to this day, I still have been unable to locate Keifer Sutherland in this movie. There is a school of thought that he is the boy playing Kevin Costello, Brian's son, near the end of the movie, but I watched the credits very carefully one time and another actor is billed as playing Kevin Costello, so as far as I'm concerned, the mystery continues: Where is Keifer Sutherland in this movie?

shareIf you pause the movie at 3:56 you will see keifer in a grey V-neck sweater holding a cigarette just left of the guy in a red sleeveless shirt. He is looking directly at the camera.
