How can Donald and Keiffer not play relatives?

I mean they look so much alike, that it's just unbelievable that they'd be anything but related. Honestly, I haven't seen this movie, or if I did, I was too young to remember. It sort of seems familiar. I'm 26 now, so I was only 2 when it came out, but I'm sure that it came on HBO or something, and I probably saw it sometime before I was 10.

Keifer's "role" in this film is virtually nonexistent. His dad basically got him a part as an extra and you'll only see him if you're watching.

Kiefer read for the part of Donald's character's son in the movie with the director, Herb Ross. It would seem a no-brainer with the physical resemblance and the fact that Kiefer had been an all-star little leaguer.

In an interview with Dark Horizons, Donald told the following, “Ross said, and I don’t want to trash the dead, he said, ‘Well, I need to audition him.’ Bloody hell, what do you want to audition him for? But he took him into his trailer and kept him there for like an hour and a half, and he came out and pontificated, and said, ‘No, this boy is not an actor.’“

So....... Kiefer ended up with a non-speaking cameo in the opening credits when Nora is dropping Michael off at school. If you know that's where it is, he's pretty easy to spot.

Thanks for the backstory. But why the hell would Don be against Ross wanting to go through the formality of an audition? Just because you're the son of an actor doesn't mean you've got talent -- and presumably, for that particular film, Keifer didn't have what Ross was looking for.

check out a time to kill, in 1996, i believe. they both have pretty substantial parts, but don't play relatives.
