The Last Scene

When Macintyre is back in Houston, and he looks out at the city lights and listens to the hum and din of a huge metropolis....it is so poignant, because we feel just as he feels, the loneliness of our regular routine, and the longing for a brief moment in time and place that we can't get back. Great scene. Wonderful film.

I agree. I just finished watching it again for the who knows how many times. At that moment when he's looking out at his view, I was thinking that, prior to going to Scotland, he thought he was on top of the world, had it all, and was exactly where he wanted to be.

Now it's just so much noise and hustle and all he wants is to be back in Ferness/Pennan where people and life have heart and soul and know what really counts in life. I always hope that he goes back and manages to make a life for himself there. Or at least is a frequent visitor.
