Congratulations to "our very own" Peter Capaldi who has just been announced as the new Doctor Who. I wonder if this will create interest in his earlier work, and whether a new generation might as a result discover this gem?

I certainly hope so. I adored Capaldi in this, and still consider it one of the most absolutely charming movies I've ever seen. I'll continue to mention Local Hero in all my Doctor Who-inflected Facebook conversations.

Perhaps the Doctor will visit Pennan. Surely, it has to be one of the most serene places in the universe.
