Now That Peter Capaldi, who played Danny Oldsen in this film, is the New Doctor on Dr. Who, I think it would be a nice touch for us to see a scene in Dr. Who would with the TARDIS Police box materializing in Ferness/Pennan right next to the red phone box.
That would be AWESOME!

Except that it was kind of already done, in a sideways sort of way.
In "The Decoy Bride", starring Doctor #10, David Tennant. It's set on a Scottish island, and tries to be a quirky "Local Hero"-ish movie, but falls short. There are maybe two scenes that come very close, but it doesn't carry that magic from end to end, as LH does.
Anyway, there is a red phone box prominently off by its own that plays a rather key role on one scene. I believe the director said he placed it there as a direct homage to "Local Hero".
