Empire Magazine named THE KEEP in it's 500 Definitive All-Time Classics!

This quote was taken directly from the magazine:

Michael Mann's only horror film remains his least successful. But it's testament to his talents that, ropey dialoque and ocasionally dodgy effects apart, it has an intriguing premise and a habit of lingering in the mind long after the minor flaws have been forgotten.
Based on the first of a sextet of horror novels by F. Paul Wilson, The Keep has a battalion of German soldiers arriving in a small village in the Carpathian Mountians to occupy an ancient fortress. Within days the hapless soldiers have released an ancient force that occupies itself by regularly reducing Fritz to cinders.
For some the heady stew of trademark Mann visuals (slow mo, lense-flare, billowing dry ice), occasionally impenetrable plot structure and Tangerine Dream synth score is an intolerable reminder of the decade that taste forgot. But Mann's movie - with a cast including Scott Glenn and Ian McKellen - emerges as a unique, intelligent film which matches effective and haunting design to an original and subtle theme. By.. Adam Smith.

It deserves it's place. I love The Keep & can re-watch it throughout the passing years with no diminishment in enjoyment. Great TD soundtrack too...

I have opinions of my own, but I don't always agree with them - George Bush
