80s synth music in a WWII movie?

I think thats one of the reasons why this is such a mismatched, cult-worthy film.

Meh. There's no rule that says the instruments used to score a movie must be period-appropriate... in fact most aren't.

Besides, it's not strictly a WWII movie, it's a supernatural horror movie set during WWII. So light jazz wouldn't exactly have worked.

Don't get me wrong, I love the score, I love the movie. It's a peculiar choice is all I'm saying.

True. It was a lot more common in the 80s. Ladyhawke, for example. What a horror that was.

At leat The Keep's music establishes mood.

Three of my favorite movies (The Keep, Sorcerer, Near Dark) are all tied together by Tangerine Dream synth music. Early TD always had an eerie edge to it even when they where trying to be happy.

"80s synth music in a WWII movie?" Yes. Inappropriate? Yes. However, this does fit with what Michael Mann does with the movie.

They had a very 80s sound, but also really fascinating. I don't think it's mismatched at all, it adds to the general atmosphere.
