Cheesy music killed the atmosphere
when I watched this I get the feeling that it's supposed to be a strange psychological type of thriller.....but instead I felt like I was at some 80s disco or something.

shareYougot your feeling and your entitled to that. synth music was new at the time and so it was put into a varity of films that had nothing to do with disco, its not unlike hearing daft punk music or hip hop music in everything these days. I liked the score for this film so you got your feelings and I got mine. and mine are usually right.
I love synth and New Wave with a passionate nostalgia. But yes, I have to agree many 80s movies don't stand up well in comparison to flicks from the 60s, 70s, or 90s solely by nature of the music. For the purposes of a soundtrack, you're pretty much stuck with
1) music of the era in which the film was made
2) music of the era in which the film is set
It's obvious they would have benefited in the long run by using #2 instead of #1, but that's mostly hindsight. I know it's extremely difficult to believe, but at the time the scene with the soldier running with the blue light in the background wasn't nearly as cheesy as it comes across now.
You're completely wrong - the Tangerine Dream score positively MADE the film, giving it an etherical quality that makes it a unique cinematic experience!
shareThe music is the only thing that makes the celluloid turd bearable.
shareThe music made the atmosphere...
shareI agree. There was a lot, I mean A LOT, wrong with this movie, but the music was the worst thing. Totally wrong for the film.
sharesounded and looked nothing like a disco
