Did Jaws 3 hurt Sea World's image?

The company doesn't come off too well in the film, letting two Great White Sharks into its lagoon and hiring scum like Calvin and his nephew to head its operations. Was the legacy off this film bad for business?

wish I could give you an answer,, I assume it would have been,, but on the other hand ,, maybe people didn't take the movie seriously and figured that a big company like that would never do that in real life. who knows.
are you going to bark all day little doggie,, or are you going to bite

I doubt it. It's a work of fiction. Plus it was a different time too and i dont think movies had the impact, they do today.

the documentary blackfish is destroying Sea worlds reputation.

I'm guessing the 2013 documentary "Blackfish" probably hurt them more than "Jaws 3."

On the contrary, this movie made all of us kids want to go to SeaWorld. For us kids that had already been to a SeaWorld, we knew how the parks really were, i.e. nothing like this. However, we wished one was like that. Underwater restaurants and walkways looked cool.

At the time, there were 3 SeaWorlds (California, Florida, and Ohio; Texas didn't open until the late 80s), and going to one was just as cool as going to Disney or Cedar Point.

Yippee kay yay, Mr. Falcon!

Explain to me how a work of fiction can hurt a real world business?

I worked at Sea World in Ohio for a number of years before it changed to Six flags and Geauga Lake. We watched the movie on a big projector and had a "Beach Party" for employees in 2004.

Pizza Hut wouldn't even let Steve Freeling say he hated Pizza Hut in Poltergeist, it's amazing that Sea World would lend itself to such a negative portrayal. It's like if Jurassic Park were a real place and endorsed the movie.
