Such a missed opportunity
As much as I enjoy this movie because it's part of my childhood, what a shame that the heart & soul that went into JAWS and JAWS 2 did not take place with JAWS 3.
I consider this movie such a missed opportunity! The concept is brilliant - JAWS breaks into Sea World. That's already something so different than what we've already seen in the first two films.
And that's where the brilliance ended.
When JAWS came out to play in the lagoon, out of ALL of those water-skiers, NOT ONE OF THEM meets the fate that Quint, Eddie and Marge met in the previous films? Really? Not one of them?
I'm not saying that a movie must have gruesome death scenes, however this is a JAWS film, why was is so watered down? No pun intended.
And then there are the embarrassing special effects. It's clear that the only purpose this movie was made for was to do a movie in 3D. What a shame to have pulled such a silly, non needed gimmick for a franchise that people took seriously and have enjoyed.
Who I do feel bad for are Bess Armstrong and Louis Gosset, Jr. Given the script that they had to work with, they both gave fantastic performances. It's a shame their work is so over shadowed by the weak script, insanely humorous special effects and the silliest and fakest fake shark to ever be on screen.
As much as I have been disappointed by reboots and remakes, I'd like to see Universal do with JAWS what was done with the Halloween franchise, reboot by ignoring parts 3 & 4 and remake some kick butt sequels that introduce a terrifying JAWS to a new generation that will now understand why there is a JAWS ride at Universal Studios. How many of us here had to explain to kids who JAWS is and why there is the attraction ride at the movie studio theme park?
Go for it Universal, reboot it. What have you got to lose? There is no way it could do worse than JAWS 3 or 4.
Maybe Ellen's boss Len Peterson built a Marine Life Park in Amity with a lagoon that connects to the ocean.
Maybe Mike Brody is now the police chief. Maybe Larry Jr. is now mayor. Maybe Sean Brody is the one who just built the new under water tunnels in the lagoon. How about Richard Dreyfuss back as Matt Hooper?
Then bring on the JAWS & JAWS 2 terror. And make sure the actors are contractually locked in to return for sequels.
So much can be done to make up for what was given to fans in 1983, the severely missed opportunity.
Why is it so difficult for some to understand that "casted" is NOT a word. It's just CAST.
