Clue was inspired by this movie (no doubt)

The movie "clue", or should I say the boardgame, completely ripped off the concept of this film.

Albeit, Clue is a superior film, but thats not saying much.

After watching this Clue seems a bit diminished. It's kind of watching Mcgwire when he hit his 70th homerun, and later finding out he was roided out.

I would have said Bonds, but everyone knew he was on roids way before he broke Hank's milestone....boy, im off topic lol

Nah - just another film in a line of campy house-bound murder-mystery comedies.

See:

The Old Dark House (1932), or its William Castle / Hammer Productions remake in 1963.... they both have pretty much an identical story to House of Long Shadows. Plus there's also Murder By Death (1976).

The origin of House of Long Shadows predates The Old Dark House. The book it was adapted from was published in 1913, and there were 3 film adaptations before '32.

Oh, excellent. I didn't know that. I'll have to hunt them out (I love this cheesey creepy-housebound mystery subgenre). Thanks.

I've seen the versions from 1917, 1929, 1935, and 1947. All are titled Seven Keys to Baldpate. I love the "creepy-housebound" mystery genre, too!

"Well figuring the board game came out in 1944 and this movie came out in 1983, that seem very unlikely that the board game ripped of the concept of this film."

House of Long Shadows is the 7th version of Earl Derr Biggers' 1913 novel Seven Keys to Baldpate, the first film adaptation was made in 1917.

Have you seen any of the earlier versions of Seven Keys to Baldpate?

Clue was actually inspired by Agatha Christie's book And Then There Were None which was originally published in 1939.

Clue is a murder mystery spoof of all these mansion movies, but it most closely aligns with "And Then There Were None", which is based on an Agatha Christie book ("Ten Little Indians").
