so let me get this straight.....

They are not releasing curtains on dvd here in the states because it's already out in England?
This doesn't even make any sense!
I think SOMEBODY is holding this up for release here in the US.

The DVD release in the UK was a shabby release from what I hear. The quality is that of a VHS so it wasn't anything special. Different companies could own the rights to Curtains so one may have permission to release it in foreign territories but not in the US. But yes, the owner of the US rights is holding up the release. Not sure who it is, but I have a hunch. The VHS was released by Vestron Video. If you check Wikipedia, most of Vestron's library was acquired by Lionsgate. So I could either see Lionsgate releasing it or possibly Anchor Bay if they wanted to purchase the rights.

You would think lionsgate would jump right on it.....they seem to release more horror dvds then anyone at the moment....however even if they do or anchor bay there will probably be no special features as both companies seem to be cutting back on this.
Still would be great to finally have it out on dvd.

Synapse ended up releasing it, but it costs so much money.

Your hunch on the owner that is holding up the US release...

One word: Guza.

Am I on the right track?

Don´t buy the UK DVD! One of the worst releases I´ve ever seen. They used an old and EXTREMLY dark VHS copy for this transfer. And even worse the image is cropped on the sides. Picture is so dark, especially at the last half hour, you can see almost nothing from what´s going on the screen. A truly terrible release, so don´t bother to look for it. I hope Code Red, Blue Underground or even Anchor Bay will release this underrated movie in the near future. If "My Bloody Valentine" gets an uncut release after 27 years and "Happy Birthday To Me" its original soundtrack for the first time on DVD, why shouldn´t this one arrive sooner or later in a descent presentation?

Actually, Vestron had lost the rights to this ages ago (in the 80s), so this would NOT be one of the titles that Lionsgate has.

It is now owned for North America by Alliance Atlantis of Canada.

At one time, MGM/UA was releasing stuff from Alliance. I don't know if they still do, though, as MGM and UA split, and are different now. Plus, a lot of MGM's back catalogue is now owned by Sony.

An MGM/UA release would have been most likely earlier, but now probably not.

And Anchor Bay said they TRIED, really hard evidentally, to get the rights back in the day, and they never could.

Somebody needs to contact Alliance Atlantis and get a DVD release. Jesus, this film was released on VHS 26 years ago, with people desperatly downloading and burning it to DVD. At least that's what I did.

The picture I have is very dark towards the end of the film, and can't really see anything in the prop room chase scene.

It will have to do. At least I get to see the film.

C'mon though, he have quite a bit of recognizable cast here: John Vernon (Animal House), Samantha Eggar (OSCAR-NOMINATION for The Collector), Linda Thorson (The Avengers TV Show). Some among horror fans: Lynne Griffin (Black Christmas), Lesleh Donaldson (Happy Birthday to Me), Sandra Warren/Sandee Currie (Terror Train). And some cameos here and there: Michael Wincott (The Crow), William Marshall (Blacula), Maury Chaykin (Dances With Wolves), and it was released by Simcom (who made PROM NIGHT with Jamie Lee Curtis and Leslie Nielsen)

It's ridiculous how this is not released on DVD yet.
