Samantha brought it on herself. Patti killed the other girls so that she (Patti) would get the part. Stryker said, in front of all the girls still alive at that time, that Samantha was wrong for the part. Patti wasn't planning on killing Sam because she knew Sam didn't have a chance at the part. Once Patti knew Sam killed Stryker, nobody was going to get the part, so Patti retaliated by killing her.
I love Patti's cornball personality in this film! Everything's fair in love -- and auditions!
Patti lived till the end of this film, but she was dead in an instant in Black Christmas. She was in and out in 24 seconds.
If you notice, Christie was in the room with Brooke and Patti when she said she got up at dawn to skate. That's how Patti knew to go and kill her. Jo Anne Hannah was the one onscreen during all the killing sequences (except Sam's, of course). It was really supposed to have been Patti. It's not fair that she had only one person lower than her on the credits, even though she had a lot of screen time. She also did the trick skating scenes that were supposed to have been Christie. The closeups were Lesleh (as Christie), but the further shots were Jo Anne. Lesleh couldn't handle the skating requirements of the part. I know I couldn't!
How did Patti wind up in the mental institution at the end of the film? Maybe Matthew took her!
Patti didn't have to kill the other girls - I think she would have been the best one for the part.
