Someone made a comment about Laurian but I can't find it

Someone said it wasn't fair that the girl who played Laurian was hardly in any of it but was higher billed than Sandra Warren who was in much more of it. Remember, sometimes some actors/actresses have scenes cut. They may have been in more of the movie had it not been cut. So Laurian may have been in more of it before it was cut, so THAT'S why she got paid more. Of course, there are some cases where someone gets high billing and wasn't in many scenes to begin with, but that's infrequent. Marlon Brando got paid a fortune to only be in a handful of scenes in Superman, and Natalie Wood got paid the most for being in West Side Story and was in less than half the total screen time. She demanded $100,000 - they turned her down because it was too much money. But they couldn't find anybody they liked as much as her, so they told her they HAD to have her. So she said they'd have to pay her $200,000. It doesn't seem like a hell of a lot for today's standards, but for 1961, $200,000 would be like paying someone $15,000,000 to be in a film today. Another example: Anne Francis got fourth billing in Funny Girl and wasn't in much of it - but Barbra Streisand didn't like her and most of her scenes were cut because of it. The frumpy Barbra probably felt like a dog compared to beautiful, blonde Anne Francis. The truth hurts, honey!

I also found out that Amy Irving, who was 3rd billed in Carrie, had many of her scenes cut before the film went to the theaters. She wasn't in a heck of a lot of the movie after the scenes were cut.

It might have been me, although I wasn't sure if I said it wasn't fair, I think I was just confused.

I did notice that Amy Irving wasn't in much of Carrie, I wonder what scenes were cut. A friend of mine is writing a book on the making of that film and has interviewed many people involved, so I should probably find out about that. Now I feel stupid, but I don't know who Natalie Wood is. I looked her up and she seemed very young to be demanding so much, was she that famous back then?

Natalie died in 1981 so maybe you weren't born, or a baby, at that time. She was a very big star in 1961. I read that one of Amy's scenes that was cut was her and William Katt in a car. I think it could have been you because your user name looks familiar.

Yeah I was born in 1988. I do know about quite a few stars from around that time but not all of them.

I wonder if the scene with Sue and Tommy in the car was the same one from the book, that would have been cool to see.

Also, I'm surprised at myself for even asking this question because I knew this movie had a lot of production problems. But anyway, thanks for clearing this up!

Oh - she was long gone when you were born. You're really making me feel old - I'm going to be 50 this year! Anyway, what happened in the scene with Sue & Tommy in the car? Only in the movies does a blond guy go out with a girl with hair as dark as charcoal. 99% of the time, the blond guys like the blonde girls! Julia Louis-Dreyfus is married to a blue-eyed blond guy and Diana Ross was at one time, but the only reason they married these girls is because they're multi-millionaires and they wanted to get their hands on their money. Ms. Dreyfus' father founded Dreyfus Financial and Ms. Ross' fortune exceeds $150,000,000.

This whole conversation went in a completely different direction, but I like it. So the only reason a blond guy would go out with a dark haired woman is if she's rich or if they're in a movie?

Actually my friend Jesse is blond and he's into dark haired women. There are exceptions.

Does the dark haired women he like have brown eyes? Or does he only like the ones with blue eyes? I'm blond myself and go out with a blonde lady, but sometimes I like the look of very dark hair and blue eyes.

I, too, enjoyed the weird turn this thread took.

fwiw to the op, my first two longterm boyfriends were blue haired and blond-eyed (shout out to who's afraid of virginia Woolf). and my eyes and hair are as black as midnight on a moonless night.

but maybe we just want to watch the world burn.

An evolutionist says the human race is going darker because "the blonds" and "the brunets" are evolving into one caramel-coloured race that will be at "5" between the "1"s (lightest) and the "10"s (darkest). Also, if the planet is heating up, the darker complexion will be essential to its acclimation. The human race overall, at some point, will be extremely tall with very large eyes. Every few years, I see young students "inching up" and their eye span widening. He went as far to say that how we perceive ETs at the current time may be subconscious projection of how we as a race will be perceived in the future. Too small of a sample (I need to get out more) but 3 blue-eyed blond men who I know are with very dark-eyed, dark-skinned women. Their wee ones are very caramel-coated, smell like honey, and seem pretty tall when they run up to greet me with smiles and hugs, grabbing my knees. They make me feel so good about what the future may bring, too.
