One of the best slashers ever

I'd easily rank this one of the better slashers ever made. It had a good mystery angle (did not see the twist coming for once), the doll was very creepy, the mask was creepy, the chase scenes were epic and the ice skating sequence is one of my favourite scenes from any slasher. If any horror film deserves a remake it's this. I kinda wish someone had lived though but then again this film never really had a "Final Girl" to begin with.

I think it's a great film as well, although it is not necessarily the sum of its parts. Its production went on for over 2 years with rewrites and reshoots and even different directors, and you can tell by looking at it as a whole. There is not a lot of cohesion. Irrespective of that, I love the film. Very moody and atmospheric.

True, it had a lot of production problems. I even believe they changed an actor or too along the way. I loved the atmosphere. Even though a lot of it takes place during the day it's still creepy which is something very few horrors/slashers manage to do. Out of the countless slashers that were made in the 80s this one really stands out to me. Very few modern horrors come close.

It is a very well made film, with strong performances, beautiful cinematography and some genuinely creepy scenes. I love the theater setting of this film, which produces a lot of red herrings and also makes it appealing to an older audience instead of the standard teenage fans. I dock it a few notches for some gaps in the script, but it's certainly well worth seeking out. 8/10 stars from me.

Cool.

Could maybe just about sneak into a top 10 slashers list. Definitely a top 25 for me.
