This part didn't make sense

I recently saw this movie, and when the Camber's Boy makes contact with his dog - Cujo in a wooded area, he notices Cujo is acting different. The dog is foaming at the mouth, growling, not obeying his instructions.

He tells his mother about Cujo's unussual behavior and makes a comment that he is going to tell his father before they leave for their trip. The mother tells her son "You will do no such thing, as he probably got sprayed by a skunk and your father will know what to do".

That comment doesn't make sense. If Cujo got sprayed by a skunk I'm sure there would be a strong odor around Cujo and the boy would have realized that. Why would she insist that he doesn't tell his father about Cujo's condition?

It's possible the father would have done nothing but at least he may have been somewhat prepared.

She was looking forward to her trip to see her sister. If the father found out about it, she was afraid he would be upset about the dog and ask her to stay to keep him (Joe) company. She told Brett to wait until that night, after their trip started, and THEN tell him about the dog.

reply

Mrs Camber didn't want anything interfering with her trip to see her sister. She was pretty sure that if Brett said anything to Joe about it he (Joe) would jump on it as an excuse to keep them home. Deep down Brett knew that something was seriously wrong with Cujo but he also was excited about the trip and knew his father might stop them. He also knew that his dad loved Cujo in his own way and would fetch him to a vet if it came to that.

Like the others said

she didnt wanna give the Dad an excuse to ruin the trip

and maybe

she wanted Dad bit!

She packed pictures. I assume she was leaving him and just wanted to get out without and didn't want any interefence such as tending to the dog.

I always felt the mother knew. Her husband was an abusive, controlling monster and she hoped the dog would attack him.

You posted this three years ago but I thought the very same thing.

reply

Well, I got the impression that the mother actually wanted the husband to get attacked by the dog.

And even if that's not the case, it seemed she was packing to leave forever, so telling the husband about the dog might have made him keep them there.

I think everyone saying she didn't want their trip held up is dead-on. I also think maybe she was afraid her husband would see the sick dog & immediately put him down, which would have devastated her son & also ruined their trip.

reply

She was leaving him and she didnt ant anything to ruin that opportunity so she dismissed the rabbies thing until they got to where they were going.
