Anyone seen the sequel yet? I have not had time to sit down and watch it yet but from what i have read it is pretty good and keeps the tone of the original.

I did, while I loved seeing many of the originals reprising their roles I didn't think the movie was that great, I give it a 6/10

I haven't seen it yet, but my question is whether is was underwhelming because of the story line, or do you honestly think it's a matter of just never being able to rekindle that wonderment of some old magic no matter how well it's done?

It was more so the story line, there were some scenes that dragged a bit too long, the last 25 minutes of the film was when the movie became really good.

For me it was its inability to capture the charm
Of the original. There were moments I could see it poking through but ultimately fell short. In all fairness I don’t think any director or writer could emulate what the original had .

Completely agree, but if you enjoyed the first one, you'd likely enjoy the second one, whereas some sequels are flat out unwatchable.

You mean the one made last year? If so, I watched it and thought it was decent. They tried their hardest to keep the charm of the original but made a mistake in copying too much of the original .. I’d give it a 6.2 out of 10.

It’s just so hard to bring back the greatness and spark of movies like a Christmas Story or National lampoons Christmas vacation . that magic can only be captured once .

I liked it pretty well, well enough to probably watch it again sometime. Adult Billingsley is a likable actor. I wish he'd do more acting.
