Authentic Period Technology?
I could have sworn they were using Radio Shack TRS-80 machines in the lab, and in a couple of shots, the portable machine they carried in a suitcase resembled the Commodore SX-64, an early "portable" computer with a 5-inch screen. But, the close-ups looked like something fabricated for the movie.
The "tape" machines used to record and playback brainwaves resembled old 2-inch video tape machines. What was that "tape" supposed to be? Again, something invented for the movie, or actual technology of the time?
Also amusing to think that broadband brainwaves could be transmitted with an acoustic modem!
The film had more interest to me because they modeled the "advanced technology" after what was actually in use in 1983.
