Lillian's Life?

Do you think it would have made more sense if more of Lillian's life was shown when she was recalling parts of it as she died? I'm sure they didn't get into all her memories because of money and time constraints, but do you feel a few shots of her maybe as a college student, a young woman, her parents, and when or how she got into science etc. would have made more sense and enhanced this part of the movie?

IMHO - I think the amount of Lillian's life shown was enough to give the audience a feel for what was going on. It was like a tease to build our collective anticipation about what would be revealed in the recording after her death. This film continues to be one of my all time favorites (currently streaming on HBOgo!). I wonder what the film would have been like if Natalie's untimely passing had not preceded it's completion?

I agree it would help. They would need only a few still photos and that would add more to Lilian's memory, and also for Wood & Walken's characters also -- that said, I don't mind the current cut at all. The story to the film is a great idea to begin with, and the only thing I wish were different would be the length of the "stargate" sequence at the end. It was just way too long... it's one of the few parts to the film that makes it a little dated today.

Well there was a little bit of that. Like when they were younger doing the coke cans experiment, and her bday party, etc.
