Everyone's a Division I talent

Anyone else think its funny how every player on the team talks about playing DI football. Chris Penn's character to USC. The QB going to west virginia. Then we see multiple other DI scouts talking to craig t nelson about a lot of his other players. So we have more than a handful of a high school football team being scouted for DI (including the backup running back) yet they're trying to beat the team who's ranked #3 in the state i believe. I still like the movie, i've just always found this part a bit unrealistic/humorous.

You obviously don't know anything about Western PA High School Football!

Last year in the WPIAL Quad A championship game, the HS conference the movie was based on, there were upwards of 20 D-I players between the two teams. There was even more talent in the 40s, 50s, 60s, and even 70s.

DownRight,
Keep an eye on the D1 commitments coming out of Western PA over the next few weeks!

If that small town tean had 3 or 4 D1 players ( doubtful ) they definately wouldn't have been an underdog.

Again.... Have you every been to a WPIAL football game?

reply

yea dude, 2 D1 factory locations in USA

1. Western Pa - ever hear of Dan Marino, Joe Montana, Jim Kelley, Johnny Unitas, Joe Namath - all Western PA'ers. And I'm only counting QBs.
2. Texas

Ampipe didn't win because they only had 3 or 4, whereas the other team had about 6 or 7 lol. It IS that prevalent in Western PA. Don't forget, there are plenty of guys that get D1 scholarhips and never start 1 down at the next level. Just like Stefan, for many, they know they'll never start, but is a great opportunity for an education nonetheless.

I really think there are football hotbeds in Western Pennsylvania and other places with high school football teams that really send more than a few players to Division I colleges every year.
