Lea Thompson's Character Needs To Grow...

A little more ambition.

I fully understand her being upset because all the "dumb jocks" get scholarships, but she can't. So she claims she can't go to college because her family can't afford it. I've known plenty of kids that have worked their way through college, supplemented by student loans and grants. So what's her problem?

IMHO, she came across as a whiny slacker.

Now if that bastard so much as twitches, I'm gonna blow him right to Mars.

She wanted a music scholarship and they didn't offer them at her school.

Yes, I SAID THAT IN MY ORIGINAL POST (reading comprehension?). My point was that she was crying that she wouldn't be able to go to college without a scholarship (gee, I love repeating myself). I say, GET A JOB AND PAY FOR IT YOURSELF. Between student loans, student aid, and a job, it shouldn't be a problem. But NO, she says she'll just stay in Ampipe and be a grocery clerk. I'm seriously questioning whether she's bright enough to handle college (even though it often doesn't take much).

She's got a right to be a little whiney. She's just come off
three days of anger because of the way Stef treated her. I think
anyone would be hurt and whiney under the circumstances.

But then what does she do? Because she loves Stef, she goes
to Mrs. Coach and explains what's going on. It worked because
Coach begins to realize what he's done. So he he gets Stef a
scholarship. I think Lisa shows plenty of moral character
and courage to do that because it doesn't really get her
anything at the moment. Her intercession with Mrs. Coach
means that Stef is going to be leaving her in Ampipe, and
even if he and Lisa decide to get married while he's in
school, he's going to be going to an engineering school--one
of the finest in the country. We we can probably guess
that it wouldn't have a great music program.

Whiney though she might have been for the moment, she rose up and fought
for what she believed was right.

She might not have been able to get a loan. If her family was deep in financial problems she wouldn't have been able to get a loan or a grant.

In the United States, The GREATER your financial need, the BETTER your chances of receiving student loans and grants.

I thought she was a great gal because she wanted Stef to go away to school on a football scholarship even though she knew she would probably lose him.

Grow? She went to Nickerson's wife and talks to her about Stef's problem. Lisa understands that if he gets a scholarship anywhere , he's gone, and she's lost her boyfriend. But that doesn't stop her from trying to help Stef get a scholarship.

She goes with him to confront Bosco, a porker who outweights her by about 400 per cent. Stef tells her to stay at the door, but she takes his hand and walks right into to see Bosco, a slimey individual whom she probably knows is not above taking a swing at her. But that doesn't stop her.

When Nickerson meets Stef at the the mill and offers him a scholarship to a fine engineering school, Lisa is right there urging him to sign the commitment letter, again knowing that Stef is leaving her, and he may or may not come back for her.

How much growing do you want from her? She is a strong young woman with inner strength, character, and integrity. (And yes, the fact that she's a cutie doesn't hurt either.)
