Yes I agree with you...it's just a movie...I was just commenting on what I would do in that sort of a situation haha. I don't appriciate you calling me a small-thinking woman either. I open my mind to almost everything that comes my way in life, I believe there is no other way to live, that being said I do have opinions as well. I'm not saying I'm right and you're wrong by any means. I just believe that IF a guy is coming on to a girl and she says no or stop, then he should do so, before things go too far, that's all. If I had stopped everytime a girl said "no" I never would have touched a boob. She led him to believe he could get away with going a little further. There was no protest when he fondled the breast, unzipped her pants, put her hand on his crotch or even when his hand went into her panties. We, the viewers, can see the discomfort on her face as he goes further but Tom can't...he has his eyes closed. Then all of a sudden she's all "STOP IT!" Mixed signals.
My guess is Tom should have trimed his nails before the scene.

Good for you. Yes, it bothered me as well that she apologizes--she has every right to say no at any time, even if she's previously said yes. Any real man would only want a partner who's fully comfortable and consenting--but then a teenage boy like Stef is not a real man. Learning about how to treat a partner in that situation is part of his maturing process.
This was his committed girlfriend and he thought this would be their "night". I think he should have stopped earlier. The early 80s were a different time than today.
As for her apology, I think she saw it that this was her boyfriend and she wanted to please him and felt bad for not being able to. People dated longer then without having sex. I'm guessing they dated for well over a year, if not longer. They just had these passionate make out sessions and it horned them both up big time. Today it's a bit different. You make your intentions known, you've got a willing partner and you go at it. They sort of practiced this edging behavior where they just got hotter and hotter until they couldn't stand it and had the willpower to break away. I can relate, having been a teenager in those times.
Just came across this film and scene on cable when it struck me that these types of scenes aren't in movies anymore...High schoolers getting it on in a car.
It's kinda a shame because it taught, to some extent, young people how to deal with realistic sexual situations.
This scene was handled perfectly by the two characters.
Nowadays this scenario might not have ended so amicably.
