A festival of red herrings

Towards the end of the movie you will find many so called red herrings. Here are some:

- In the court it looks like Kessler is going to lie. Then he tells them he faked the proofs.
- It is shown that Stacy disappears when Laurie is hiding in the room. As she leaves the room he is still there.
- In the last scene Kessler is threatening Stacy with a gun. You see police cars arriving in the background and two policemen are taking Stacey's arms to arrest him. You think it's over now, then Kessler shoots.

There are other herrings before, but it increases towards the end. If you ask yourself why this movie has tension, it is mainly because of this.

Another surprise was Stacy going to all the trouble to find that girl's diary. He even killed her roommate, and the friggin' thing wasn't even in the box! Kessler already had it!

That's true, but this is only the half of an herring because he would have killed her anyway because it made Click in his brain.
