Why? Just Why?

You know what....why not. In an age of remakes, V is ripe for the picking. The first one was very well done and still enjoyable today. Still, it will be cool to see what they can do to it given today's budgets and acting talents. Take Battlestar Gallactica for example, the orginals are classics, but the new series is just as good if not better.

I also really enjoyed Salem's Lot which came out a few years earlier. The 2004 remake of that mini-series was terrible. So! I still defer to the original. The same goes for V, if it is good; perfect, if not, the original still stands up.

reply

"V" was an excellent miniseries that is still strong today. The only thing that they could improve is the special effects or make up. But only by a little since I rewatched the scene where Donovan discovers who the visitors really are and still has quite an impact. And besides "V" had a good cast and a great story that showed us how facism and nazism works even in a free country.

So,no. I am not in favor of a remake.

this re-make will be horrible...now kenneth johnson get up and get the new movie in the works before marc singer is in a wheel chair

Yes, but there are better things to remake than this. And for that matter, worse things to remake than this.

Two words: Battlestar Galactica. I would love to see this work out the way Battlestar has worked out. I'm sure people made posts like this in 03 when they found out Battlestar was being re-made.

reply

I'm looking forward to this, I am sure it will be a hit just as long as it keeps to the Original Mini-Series and not go down the route of the terrible TV series. It still annoys me today that the TV series was made so badly after it all started so well with the Orginal Mini-Series.

reply

THis remake is going to *beep* suck. I think it would work more with all the original cast 20 years later and do a new story around the old cast that way the old generation and this Generation Emo will fit into the world or V.

I totally agree with you, they were SO CHEAP, took away their voices, recycled clips from the miniseries instead for the tv series, even took away their sunglasses I think. As young as I was I knwe what they did was a big mistake. I hope Kenneth J. has more control over this than the nbc series because that was "what NOT to do"-they COULD have had a film franchise!

reply

Kenneth Johnson will have no control over this as he is not involved in it sadly.

I am on the fence over the new series. I will say that I hope that it doesn't become "politically charged." Ken Johnson had a way of speaking to a universal danger of totalitarianism...in his Nazi inspired allegory. I mean you can imagine that the resistance was full of people from both sides of the political spectrum...(In fact the original did showcase the diversity) fighting an enemy together. I don't want people to be able to say "oh yeah that bad guy is just [insert current politian here]." It is stupid because it alienates(no pun intended) 50% of the potiental viewers.

All the best,

I actually just watched a copy of the ABC pilot. Granted, I haven't seen the original, but I found it reasonably entertaining. The special effects were pretty awesome, but I found the twists pretty predictable and none of the characters really interested me that much.

I don't think I would mind a remake... I just wanted to see what the characters would have been upto in the the future. Too bad they can't to a remake and a sequel.

reply

I have hopes for this remake. No, it won't be the same as the original mini-series. There is no way they can re-create that shocking "reveal" from the first one and the impact it had at the time. That was a water cooler moment

My only concern is that it is on one of the big networks, who don't really seem willing to give a series a chance to get an audience unless it pulls in big numbers right away. ABC got spoiled with Lost and Desperate Housewives, and any show that doesn't pull in those numbers gets scrapped pretty early.

reply

Given the premise, it seems like a series that should last 22 episodes or less.

You can bet your a$s that if the initial episodes do well, the story will be extended and attenuated and contrived to keep the show going. See "Prison Break" as evidence.

reply

I'm actually excited about it!

You do know, I don't actually have magic powers.

reply

I just read about it today in the paper myself. I can't see a reason for it.

reply

If you think about, there is never a reason for ANY show.

reply

it'll get cancelled

Most shows get cancelled. Very rarely do they actually want and get to end the series on their own terms.

You taste funny...

yeah i seen trailer for it on youtube. il watch it but have a feeling that it will be trash. the uniforms look crud. no donovan or diana. would rather they made second generation than a remake. die hard v fans like me will give it a chance, but something tells me that this re-boot will fail.
