Why Was Bubba In Night School While He Was Still In High School?

This may have been explained and I just missed it, but why was Bubba going to night school when he was still in high school? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought night school was for people who never finished high school?(See Thelma.) If it was because he flunked some classes requited to graduate when he went to juvenile hall, isn't that what summer school is for, and/or shouldn't he have been held back a year? At least that's how it worked when I graduated H.S., and that was 20 years ago.

Anybody?

Bubba faced the possibility of not graduating because he failed an English course and didn't make it up in summer school. Night school is for anyone who needs additional credits to graduate. It doesn't matter if they are still in HS by day, or if they were a dropout.

Oh, O.K. See, in when I went to school and if you failed a class and didn't make it up in summer school, you could always take that class again the next school term.

For example, I failed Science Class in 9th grade and re-took it again in 10th grade along with my regular sophomore Biology class. I've always been under the assumption that night school was just for drop-outs, but that's probably due to the way it's always been portrayed on T.V.
