Mama was 65?

She looked older. Not her face (not many wrinkles; Lawrence was only in her 30s), but her hair and wardrobe looked much older. My mom is in her 70s and she looks younger than mama.

As far as her wardrobe, I think Mama reflected her time a lot. It seems ppl a long time ago looked older than they were. At the beginning of All in the Family, Archie and Edith were supposedly in their late 40s but they looked MUCH older than that, I would have guessed early 60s.

I have thought that about "All in the Family" before!

Exactly!!!

Were we sure she was 65 and not older? Was it ever said? But yeah, like the other poster said and I agreed, back than in the 1980's and before, middle aged people and senior citizens looked and dressed much older than they do now!

In the last season she attended her fiftieth high school reunion (although she didn't graduate!). This would make her 67 or 68.

She said she was 63 when she learned to drive, so she would have been about 65 in the middle of the series...

And in one episode Naomi tells Mama, "You've got half your life ahead of you!" And Mama replies, "How many ppl do you know live to be 130!?"

So it has to be around about 65.

Good one...I don't know why that happened...it would have been cool if it happened on Groundhog Day!!!!

Ellen was at least 60 so add 20-years and mama would be 80.

reply

I'm guessing Mama had Ellen rather young. On Mama's 30th birthday Ellen looked at least 11.
