Am I the only one...

...who thinks Mama's Family was a LOT more funny than Carol Burnett ever was?

I nearly fall asleep watching Carol, but Vicki Lawrence always keeps me giggling and I think she was the best thing to come out of that show.

Good 80's sitcom!

Yeah, I'm in my 40's and love classic shows, but Carol hmmm. The show seemed to focus plenty on blooper comedy over anything substantially funny.
But respect to fans of Carol, I just personally think Vicki is a better comedian.

As far as Carol Burnett's show went, I preferred the "homemade" sketches they did more than the movie take-offs.

By HOMEMADE sketches I mean sketches the cast THEMSELVES came up with like, the one where Carol and Harvey are a busy couple and they are trying to work out a time to get together just for THEM at the breakfast table, right before Carol goes into labor, forgetting that she was pregnant lol and the one where Tim is trying to fix his breakfast and but keep messing up the kitchen waking up Carol who is exhausted from being up with their baby, and the one where Carol gives Tim the 3rd degree over a mysterious phone call in the middle of the night. AND Tim as the vacuum cleaner salesman trying to sell Vickie a Vacuum cleaner.

I don't care that much for the 'Family' sketches on TCBS. Yeah, sure, they could be funny and are okay to watch, but they are usually loud and depressing. Because they're sketches there is way too much OTT yelling and carrying on for the studio audience. Mama is depicted as being a really nasty, deadwood character who doesn't go anywhere, while Eunice is just a sad and pathetic put-upon daughter/wife who you almost feel sorry for. Ed is terrible and almost ruins the sketches. I will say that I liked Ellen better in the sketches than on MF, but that's about it.

I prefer Mama being the more-rounded, fleshed out protagonist she was in MF. I also like Eunice better as the trouble making antagonist she was in her guest stints.

I never minded Carol Burnett, but I do notice more recently that the 'sketch' shows had about 2 sketches in each episode. really???

maybe I am too used to Monty Python but 2 sketches per episode is just pointless.

and yeah, I prefer Mama to Carol any day.

Oh God. Fortune vomits on my eiderdown once more. Edmund Blackadder.
