Did Seasons 1 and 2 have different writers than the other seasons???????

I enjoyed season 1 but season 2 was ok. It had very few funny episodes. I just recently brought seasons 3 and 4 and man, most of those episodes from the start of those seasons are actually funny and enjoyable. Iola was a great edition to the cast as well as Bubba. Only thing i couldnt get past was Naomi's transformation(hair and voice) lol. But the show was different from season 3 though 6. Anyone know?

It was more like "The Family" sketches of the Burnett show, which weren't necessarily meant to be funny. They were dramedy. Mama was meaner too.

From what I've observed is that the show largely kept the same writing and production staff throughout its entire run. There may have been one-off episodes here and there that had a different writer, but for the most part it was the same team from 1982 to 1990.

Season two was my favourite for sure.
