Best Costume Design aside, this got zilch from the Emmys? Really? No Best Actress in a Comedy for it's star, no writing nods? I always hear good things about the show- was it a flop during it's release?
shareApart from the first two seasons, "Mama's Family" was seen mainly in first-run syndication which in the 1980's made it ineligible for Emmy consideration. Only network shows were considered. The show had a reputation for being "low-brow" which probably explains why it wasn't nominated for anything when it ran on NBC, apart from costume design. Vicki Lawrence was nominated for best supporting actress in a special for "Eunice", but lost.

MF was the number one rated comedy in syndication for all of its run there -- during a time when syndicated series were all over the place (Charles In Charge, The New Leave It to Beaver, The New Monsters, My Secret Identity.) The series was ended at the discretion of Vicki Lawrence, as opposed to it being cancelled due to poor ratings. You may have found it "unwatchable," but those who felt contrary outnumbered your stance.

I agree....there are several television shows that are IMO completely devoid of any quality, but I don't have the time to post a message to the fans of those shows just to cause negative reactions and for that very reason I won't name those shows because nobody cares what I don't like......focus on the positive and you will be much happier!!!!! PEACE OUT!!!!

I'll focus on the hate...I HATE Mama's Family! It was idiotic, painful to sit through, and looked like a cheapo show done on cable access TV.
