I used to watch recorded episodes of this all the time as a kid.
I'm trying to remember one episode where Doc and Sprocket made some lawn gnomes which ended up terrifying the fraggles like scarecrows.
Could anyone point out the name and season of this particular episode?
It's the season 4 episode "Uncle Matt's Discovery". Doc was repainting a bunch of old lawn gnomes for Miss Ardath (the owner of the Captain's Inn). He put them all on his workshop counter, including Uncle Matt, who he mistook for a gnome. Doc then proceeds to spraypaint one of the gnomes white in order to get rid of the old colors, starting with its face.
Uncle Matt watches in horror, believing that the "Silly Creature is erasing the little man's face." When Doc turned away to answer the phone, Uncle Matt ran screaming to Fraggle Rock, pleading to not have his face erased. Gobo was embarrassed, especially after Uncle Matt insists it was just a joke in order to save face, so to speak. XD
Most of the episode is spent with Gobo angry at Uncle Matt for not admitting he was scared, telling him that "being a liar is worse than being a coward." They fight, and discover what looks like a Fraggle version of a scarecrow, which then leads them to discover a cave full of tunnels that can magically transport them to different parts of Outer Space (including Australia, as evidenced by kangaroos).
Uncle Matt finally admits he's afraid, and after realizing their amazing discovery, Uncle Matt says exploring Outer Space will be much easier now and that he will be able to spend more time at home. A later episode reveals that he named the cave full of tunnels the T. Matthew Fraggle Room.
