Bad timing

This show had potential but I think the timing if it was bad. In the post-Vietnam 80s people wanted to feel good about themselves again.

Hence the reason for the escapist television of the 80s Family Ties, Cheers, The Cosby Show, Silver Spoons.

The political shows of the 70s had their
place and time, but so many of them toned down losing any real direction or conflict.

Maybe in 1973 the show would've had more relevance with Vietnam veterans returning. Ironically a subject very people wanted to deal with.

By time AfterMASH went on Korea had been over 30 years Vietnam war 8-10 years

Another example of bad timing but in a different sense was to change the program schedule to air the show against "The A Team". I'm sure whatever show preceded or aired after AM probably failed in their time slot too.

But I also think that people wanted entertainment on TV and not a civics lesson every time they turned on the TV.

The opposite of the 60s with all the social issues going on that were ignored, but became dominant in the 70s

I was a fan of MASH at the time and I don't even think I knew there was such a show as AfterMASH. Given a choice between the two, I probably would have watched the A-Team. That was an incredible show to an eighth-grader.

I'm going to have to find somewhere that I can watch these online. I don't think they're on DVD yet.
