Jane losing her dress

Did anyone else think that when Jane threw the melon at Barney that the bump on his head would have made him lose his powers? As soon as he goes all dizzy I thought, 'end of movie'. Nice bonus of seeing Jane's underthings though!

Also, did it look to anyone like Jane was expecting something to happen? When we see the prism shot of Jane laughing from Barney's point of view her grin suddenly goes and she looks all serious as though something is goin to happen to her.

Whatever she was expecting, she clearly wasn't expecting to get caught out wearing stockings to her prom.

I have to admit that him losing his powers with the watermelon hit was exactly what I expected...

What I didn't really expect was this sort of half-naked orgy at the end... I wonder if you would get away with a film these days where girls got stripped of there clothes without their permission and were chased around the gym by horny guys...

Below is the link to a great picture of that scene.

Here's from an interview with Heather Thomas from The Vancouver Sun - June 29th, 1982.

"From the beginning the producers wanted me to provide some topless nudity," Thomas said. "And I refused. I didn't think the movie needed it.
"We went back and forth for about three months until they told me I wouldn't have to do any nudity. With that understanding, I agreed to play the part."
According to Thomas, the producers had conveniently forgotten the agreement when she reported to work.
Thomas says she needed the money to move into a new apartment, but she remained adamant about not shedding her clothes. She locked herself in her dressing room until her manager arrives to fight it out with the producers.
"Then they gave me the oldest line in Hollywood.'Take off your blouse and we'll cut it for a PG rating,'" Thomas said, laughing. "They said they just wanted to shoot my bare shoulders and expected me to believe it.
"No matter what, they wouldn't let up on me.

In one scene my dress is supposed to be torn off of me. Thay promised to clear the set, but there were about 500 visitors on the set that day. I was furious."
To maintain her modesty, Thomas wore a toe-to-neck body stocking and then wrapped her chest in masking tape.
But she still had some obstacles to overcome.

One scene calls for an 8 X 10 glossy of Thomas naked from the waist up. She refused.
"So these sleazeballs got a body model to pose naked and they superimposed a photograph of my face on the nude," she said.
"Thay inserted a disclaimer in the final credits saying that the body model posed for the still, not me. But who sticks around for the credits?
"I'm afraid the producers will use that nude with my face on it for the promotion and advertising. I wouldn't let them get away with that in a million years. They must think i'm really stupid or naive.
"I grew up in this town and I know all of the tricks they pull on inexperienced young actresses.
Wll, they didn't fool me. The producers hate me because they didn't get a single nude frame of me.
"The Screen Actors Guild has rules. Embassy Pictures, which is now owned by Norman Lear, can't release the film without my oay. I just hope they back me up all the way on this.
"I'm going to see Zapped next week and I hope I don't start screeching in the middle of the picture.
"If and when I sign my approval of the picture, i'm going to make sure that the print I okay is the one that goes to all the theatres. If not, there's going to be a lot more trouble."

Yeah. Jane maybe. But why all the others? I would love to see Peyton get his face busted! Haha

Heather Thomas was like the ultimate Victorian righteous prude back in those days.

Its a teen comedy with a gratuitous topless scene. Just get over it, and kill the attitude buzz.

reply

Yeah, Heather Thomas sounds like a real stick in the mud, it was the early 80's, it was a teen comedy, what did she expect when she signed on?

And most actresses at that time would have been ok with going topless, heck a lot of them were ok with much more, like Betsy Russell in Private School.

It's no wonder she didn't have much of a career, since when you're up and coming, giving producers a hard time is going to hurt your career a lot more than nudity will.

reply

Yeah, who cares about a little old breach of contract?
