Who was Pooh? (Possible very mild spoiler)
Hello! I must have missed her introduction. Was she the girl who watched him have sex with the visiting gire? I really have no idea. Thanks!

Pooh, born Bainbridge (!) Percy, was the youngest sister of Cushman, AKA "Cushie" Percy, who was Garp's first lay. Pooh was so-called (in a family of people with weird names and weirder nickanmes) because she wasn't properly toilet-trained at first, and later continued wearing diapers because she enjoyed it.
The Percys were the family who more or less owned the boys' school where Jenny worked and Garp attended. Their mother was the only descendant of the founder left by that generation. They owned a big dog whose ear Garp bit bit off, in vengeance for the dog having bitten off part of HIS ear.
In the early years, you see her as the little brunette sister. Later, she directs Helen to look while Garp is in flagrante with (her sister) Cushie. Then, she's the one who spots him (in drag) at the service for his mother. As I recall, she became an Ellen Jamesian...she couldn't say "Garp!" but rather, "Arp!" and then of course everybody chases him.
Finally, she's the one who shoots him.
For some reason, she always had it in for him. She's sneering at him from the gitgo.

*Spoiler, but Question for aquilablanco-1*--- And dang it, I just realize this post is two years old. But I can't help it! I'm a recent college graduate with an BA in English lol, and I want to discuss this story!
"Pooh, born Bainbridge (!) Percy, was the youngest sister of Cushman, AKA "Cushie" Percy, who was Garp's first lay."
Very technical, dumb question- I've only seen the movie. I do know enough to assume that Garp had sex with Cushie. HOWEVER, in the actual scene in the movie, didn't they just show her stopping, then feeling bad, and... from what I gathered... giving him head to finish him off, since there was no condom?
I'm just wondering because of the fact that he was with that prostitute soon after. Of course, no sex was shown there, either. I just had wondered whether I was to assume Cushie was his first, or that prostitute was his first. And if so, was that actual scene when he lost his virginity? Or are we to assume it just eventually happened, with Cushie?
I know. Reading too much into it, and I should just go with the assumption. Just trying to clarify as much as possible lol.

The movie didn't mention the poem about condoms. The book did, of course. The movie also doesn't show them get back together later, it doesn't even imply that they do.
