Did Garp Die in the End?

Loved this movie when it came out and just watched it again today. I thought it was awful that Pooh was such a wretched evil person seemingly with motive other than jealousy of her pretty older sister. Garp was a kind, sweet man and I can't imagine why else she'd harbor such hatred for him throughout the years and finally shooting him.

In the scene when they are airlifting him to the hospital he is still alive. Wondering if it's implied that he dies from this or how it ended in the book?

He's faaakin' dead. In the book he dies before they even get him out of the wrestling room.

yes, he does die. It's been years since I read the book, but like many novels, there was a lot more richness to the book than even the film. One point I missed present in the book and not present in the movie is how real Ellen James actually becomes part of their lives.

This is my favorite book, have read it many times. Garp does not get Cushie pregnant. She's married and during the birth of her first child she dies. I just got the dvd for Christmas and have watched it twice now. I like the movie, but I love the book. Robin Williams did a good job in this movie.

But yes, Garp does die in the book and in the movie.
