Why did Deborah’s husband leave her?
The movie doesn’t say. Was it in the novel? Seems odd that he would be permitted to take the children unless there is something wrong with her.

shareThis is a great question, I wondered the same thing. You the novel is so different. I was skimming through it and boy, Mamet really made it his own. I’ll have to do a deeper dive to see what’s in there re: Deborah’s husband taking the kids. My guess is that in the state she was in, she was already dead to be and his children. Maybe it was for their sake. The need to move on.
