Compared to most of the other programs who had basically human mannerisms, he was a bit of a spazz. It's as if Jeff Bridges was trying to differentiate him from Flynn and also to make him seem more.. program-like.
shareThe performance is inconsistant. Bridges plays Clu one way (very stylized) while Clu is in the tank and then when Clu is being interogated by the MCP he plays it very naturally.
shareRight. Very hyperactive and monotone, and the high pitched scream when he crashes the tank. He's much more eccentric than pretty much every other program in the movie.
shareCLU wasn't a well written hacker program, so CLU seemed a bit strange.
TRON was a more purposeful written program by Alan, so it was more natural and resourceful in the digital world.
