ultra-white tenebrae

for a film titled "tenebrae", there is an awful lot of white/beige, empty/uncluttered spaces and minimalist design on show here; not least the troubling dream-like sequence at the beach (note the trousers' and dress's colour). Check the streets: long, usually vacant even in day-time (and that's Roma we're talking about!). Even Daria Nicolodi(you mean, the divine enfant's mum)'s face is also surprisingly white.

Paradoxical or what, from our friend Dario!

(yes, yes, there are a couple of night-scenes near the end)

This being said, I also wanted to say that I am "not exactly" convinced by the main actor... Oh well, Brechtian highlighting of the artifice I guess!

Yeah, he meant for it to be that way, he was talking about that on the commentary.

I'm sure the re-release won't be so blown out, though. My LD copy is lacking so much detail.

"Ultra-White Tenebrae"! Sounds like a dish soap.

Yep, the darkness is all internal in this movie.

I just saw this film for the first time last night. I haven't listened to the commentary yet. But the use of such stark whites really makes the touches of red (roses, shoes, blood) pop out from the screen. A very "shocking" effect.
