Why won't my DVD play on my DVD player?

I got the Anchor Bay DVD online and put it in my DVD player, and instead of going to the menu, a message popped up-- "Region Error- playback is prohibited in your region. Please eject the disc." wtf? I haven't tried it on any other DVD players, but can they actually encode discs so they can't play in certain areas? (I live in the U.S.) Please help me, I'm dying to see this movie!

You must have gotten a DVD from another region.

That's all I can think of if you get a region error message

I tried doing that once, making every minute count. It gave me a headache- Adrian Monk

unfortunately some dvd's are made to play in different regions. you need a dvd player that plays universal region codes. that means the dvd player is formatted to play dvd's from all over the world no matter what region they are.
get yourself a CYBERHOME dvd player at BEST BUY for about $40 and then take it to the computer section there at the store and ask them to format it so it can play all region dvd's. it will cost you about $10-15 to do it and they usually do it in about ten minutes when they work on it. over all you spent like $60 and now you have a dvd player that plays all region dvd's.

imagine all the uncut and uncensored stuff you can get from other countries. i get a lot of special edition dvd's that are not available here in the USA.

hope this info helps you out.

You should look for the region code for your player online. It's usually just a sequence of buttons you press on your remote control. Simple. Just type in "The make and model of your player" and "Region hack".

I got the Deep Red/Tenebre 2 disc Anchor Bay set back in late 2001. Tenebre has always played fine. Deep Red played fine ONCE, and then never played again (I always get a "Can't read disc" type message, even though there are no scratches on the disc). I should have returned it 6 years ago, but oh well. So I feel for you. At one time lots of Anchor Bay discs were having technical problems...there was a whole recall with the first batch of Opera discs, which some longtime Eurohorror fans may remember well.
