Blockbuster vs. Netflix

I added Tenebre to my Blockbuster queue as my #1 selection back in September 2006 and it took 9 months to receive it. It had been listed as "Very Long Wait" but I think getting it nearly a year later is unreasonable. Phenomena has been #2 on my list and I'm seriously contemplating switching to Netflix if I have to wait another year to get it. Your experience with either online company would be appreciated. Thanks.

***Thanks for the responses! I'll definitely give Netflix a try. I didn't realize I could try it free. You all are great!***

Netflix has been around longer and has a larger selection, but blockbuster has a lot of bonus stuff like the in store exchange and such. I'd say keep the blockbuster online if you already have it, but sign up for the free 2 week or 1 month trial of netflix as well and add the stuff you're waiting for on blockbuster. If you get it there, you can cancel after the trial and remove the stuff from the blockbuster que and not really have to change anything.

Blockbuster is the Walmart of video, and that's not a compliment. Blockbuster (like Walmart) doesn't carry a lot of titles that they consider questionable, and they opt to only carry rated versions of some films. I'm not big on censorship, and I've personally abhorred Blockbuster for decades.

Netflix has many copies of titles that are long out of print (Tenebre and Phenomena among them) that Blockbuster either doesn't have or they only carry a few copies of. I rented Tenebre from Netflix and got it a few days later. As for Netflix's "very long wait" period, the longest I've ever waited on a film marked that was around two weeks.

Netflix has its problems too, but I consider it to be the lesser of two evils.

I ordered both Tenebrae and Phenomena to my queue a few months back. I got them both within a week from Netflix.

Be careful that you don't end up with Unsane or Creepers from Blockbuster which are the ones that were heavily cut.

I recently switched to Netflix after running into the same problem with Blockbuster. I noticed too with Blockbuster that when ordering a cable series with multiple discs (i.e. "Extras"), they would have say Disc. 1 of Season 2, but there would be a "very long wait" for Disc 2 of Season 2. Also with Blockbuster, I would have a movie in the #1 spot in my queue and it would be "available," but they wouldn't ship it, they'd ship the #2 movie. After that happened several times I was fed up! So far no such problems with Netflix.

UPDATE:
I canceled Blockbuster but hadn't gotten around to signing up with Netflix until yesterday. The first two movies I added to my queue were Phenomena (Jennifer Connelly is the most beautiful actress alive) and Black Sunday, neither of which were ever shipped to me in the 11 months I had them in my top 10 queue with Blockbuster. Netflix just sent me an email stating both movies should arrive tomorrow!

I would notify Blockbuster constantly because I wasn't receiving films in a timely fashion (it should not take one week to receive a dvd in LA) and customer service would respond by sending me in-store coupons. Driving to the store to obtain dvds defeats the purpose of participating in an Online Rentals program. Not to mention the stores were never stocked with the dvds I like, had horrible parking situations and long lines at the rental counter. Also, when I was finally so fed up I canceled my Blockbuster account they shipped me just ONE film during the two weeks remaining in my billing cycle. I'm so over them.

i have one problem with your post. jennifer connelly is NOT the most beautiful actress alive. ever see jessica alba??

reply

You're right. Jennifer Connelly is SO ugly.

So is Jessica Alba.

Icky. Yuck.

NOT the most beautiful actresses alive. Ever see my girlfriend?

reply

Jessica Alba is a pretty girl no doubt. Very cute. Jennifer Connelly is drop dead gorgeous.

Jennifer C used to be gorgeous (Hot Stuff, Some Girls, The Rocketeer) and then she slimed up, tomed up, lost those FANTASTIC breasts and became just like any other plastic Hollywood actress. I was heart broken!!

reply

I have to completely disagree. Granted, Jennifer Connelly has lost weight, but she is NOT a plastic Hollywood actress. That would imply having FAKE breasts, FAKE tan, face lift, etc. For the most part JC takes on serious roles that showcase her acting ability as opposed to exposing body parts. She is now in her later 30s and IMO has only gotten sexier, where most women do not (at least not naturally). When I say drop dead gorgeous I also include her intelligence. She is simply stunning inside and out and that is what makes a perfect 10. As for fantastic breasts you could always play Mulholland Falls and freeze-frame her topless scene.

I added Tenebre to my Blockbuster queue in Nov. 2006 & didn't get it till Aug. 2007 or so. Same thing, very long wait. I finally got Black Sunday after nearly a year, but there's still a lot of stuff I still haven't got that have been sitting in my queue for a long time. It's like they have one copy to go around the whold country or something on some of these titles. I've been happy with Blockbuster otherwise.

Thanx for posting this topic. I thought about trying Netflix, but didn't know if it would be the same way or not, now I think maybe I will try it.

I had inferno in my queued from Netflix for about two weeks and everytime it was avaliable it would give me the 2nd movie in my que, so I just took it off.
