My copies of Tenebre and Phenomena arrived today, just got finished watching Tenebre, and am amazed of how good a film this is... really exceeded my expectations.. any new fans thanks to the dvd?? I have Suspiria and Demoni (both amazing films) but now I'm hooked on Argento...I hope Phenomena is as good is this, thanks Anchor Bay!
Oh yeah I know he didn't direct Demoni... just mentioned it since he wrote it.. the only other film of his I've seen, well that he co-wrote is Omce Upon a Time in the West, the next three films of his I'm going to buy are Infero, Opera, and Deep Red, I'm trying to get all his films from Deep Red till Opera, what other Argento stuff do you suggest?? I heard his films after Opera are pretty bad... peace!
The Bird with the Crystal Plumage- Gets better and better after each viewing. This could easily take the top spot one day.
Suspiria- Classic. Visually stunning.
Deep Red- Brilliant is the only way to describe it.
Trauma- Here's one of his post-Opera movies. Look if you compare it to the films above ok maybe not so good, but Trauma is a lot better than people give it credit for.
Inferno- Very good. Plot is a bit messy, but a classic.
Opera- Didn't like it at first, now I love it. But the metal music does slightly take away from the tension.
The Stendhal Syndrome- Same as Trauma. A little slow at times, and very different than typical Argento, but a very good movie.
Do You Like Hitchcock?- Honestly, I enjoyed this. Not one of his best, but oddly enjoyable. Masters of Horror: Pelts- Gore galore!
The Black Cat (Segment from Two Evil Eyes)- Very cool. George Romero directed the other segment.
Phenomena- I like this a lot, but not as much as most Argento fans. I like it, but not as much as most, maybe the more I watch it the more I'll like it. Masters of Horror: Jenifer- Weak at times, but great gore.
The Cat o' Nine Tails- Good, but doesn't fully work.
Stay away from The Phantom of the Opera and The Card Player at least for now. I thought both were lousy.
Gotta disagree with you on Plumage. Not because I like it, but that movie almost never gets brought up.
Overrated would be something more popular like Tenebre or Suspiria (not that I think they are). But Plumage never gets much attention to warrent an overrated
Well that's cool about Plumage. Like I said for me I feel its often over-looked.
Give it another shot. I thought it was alright at first now I love it. In general 70s/80s Argento gets better om multiple viewings. Movies I loved the first time around I loved even more the 2nd.
Make sure you get the uncut Opera only (not terror @ the opera - virgin methinks). A little cracker. Suspiria is always my fave...bloody remake coming though.... Phenomena is not great but certainly an interesting little gem. Deep Red I like despite the critics. Inferno is flawed but still ace. my next is Mother of Tears to complete the trilogy. Sleepless is okay too Has anyone seen The Card Player perchance.
omg i had never seen TENEBRAE but loved some of his other movies for years---i just finished watching it minutes ago and I AM IN LOVE!! what a movie, what an ending!! so glad i found the dvd. This may be my new fave of his?!
Thought I'd add a comment and it seem's to be a good thread! I first got into Argento through Demon's...I know he didn't direct it but he was to do with it:-) Then I saw Suspiria and I thought what a weird classic film! And then I next saw 'Trauma' which I liked as it had a 'guess who the killer is' plot and I love those sort of film's! I am going to get 'Tenebrae' next and then will pick up some more of his.... Horror fan from the UK:-))
