fire/water

i've noticed that christiano berti and peter neal have a certain motif.berti's is fire,specifically the fireplace in his house which symbolizes his fire-and-brimstone attitude towards the "filthy slimy perverts" and the strict catholic upbringing he mentions to peter neal.on the other hand,peter neal's motif is water,his seaside humiliation as a teen,his killing the girl who did it next to a pool,the glass of water he keeps handy to take his pills whenever he has a flashback/panic attack,the sound of bubbling water during those flashbacks,and in the last act when his final rampage begins with his killing gianni it starts raining like hell and does so for the rest of the film.
