UNSANE

I got this version of the movie in a 50 Pack DVD Collection, cost me only a little over thirty bucks. And "Unsane" has got to be my third favorite of Argento's films, I have only seen four of them of course, the American cut versions.

I also own Anchor Bay's Susperia (good, but I never really saw what was so great about it), and public doman releases of Creepers (which might be my favorite, sorry) and The Hatchet Murders (my least favorite, but it's still okay).

How 'cut' is UNSANE? Am I missing anything good that was featured in Tenebre?

your post really makes me uneasy.
don't ever, under any circumstances, watch argento flicks when they're butchered up (edited).

tenebrae is extremely violent and that's what i'm assuming you missed out on. there are some great scenes that you may never see.

as for the hatched murders...no. no no no. that's a HEAVILY cut version of Profondo Rosso (or Deep Red) and you have most definitely missed out. Profondo Rosso and Tenebrae are tied as my favorite argento flicks.

do yourself a favor and watch the full versions.
you won't even be watching the same film.

Okay, whatever.

I was told maybe 40 minutes or so were cut, but it was mostly dialogue.

Quite a few people prefer the shorter cut of Deep Red (No missing gore, and a tighter pace). Unsane (Tenebre) is a different matter.

Well I don't need to worry about the uncut of DEEP RED then. If it's not all that worth it.

I doupt I will ever get around to TENEBRE though. I'll probably just stick with my cheap cut copy of UNSANE.

I think Tenebre is Public Domain now, so you could probably download it.

This reply reminds me of Comic Book Guy on the Simpsons

I've watched your version, and it isn't THAT heavily cut, but most of the awesome murders are edited in some way. Here's what I remember-

- edited title credits
- few seconds cut from opening murder
-random dialogue snips through the whole movie
-the end murder (of Peter's wife) is BUTCHERED! you can't even tell what's happening!
- different music for end credits.

I would recommend getting the anchor bay treatment of Tenebre, especially for the cleaned up print. Argento was the master of colors and that Mill Creek print is pretty grainy and ugly is it not?

you might even like the Phenomena version better than Creepers. I know I do.

They go in Hollister as cute little kids and come out THE STEPFORD TEENS

So I'm not actually missing too much.

VHS transfer I believe. Pretty dark picture.

I'm in no hurry, but if I saw it I might check it out. There's lots more footage, like almost an hour or something.

I got the Anchor Bay version. I saw a cheap DVD of it at the SAAN store, came out around Halloween. It's only $1.99 now.

Sorry I have to update this, but i too was also curious how edited UNSANE was. Apparently now theres an FAQ link here on imdb that lets you watch UNSANE. I didnt watch the whole thing but i skipped to the most hideous murder and that person who said it was right:

Its ****ing butchered all to hell. You really oughta see the original, longer uncut murder sequence. I think you ARE missing a lot if you didnt get to see the scene full throttle. Its one the most violent yet aesthetically brilliant murders in slasher/giallo history, imo. Argento is a director by trade but an artist at heart!

Still that abridged scene shouldnt account for the bulk of 10 missing minutes. I may have to sit down and watch the whole damn thing tommorow after work.

Now if anyone can explain why OPERA is apparently missing 20(!) minutes in some edits, ill be set.

Oh and yeah, go watch the REAL Tenebre :)

It's been a while since I've even watched this. I should really get around to it again, I can barely remember it.
